What the Bible Says About Children

    On October 18, Byrd’s Chapel Celebrated the Children’s Sabbath.  The morning service was planned and led by the children.  They led the Affirmation of Faith and the Lord’s Prayer, sang their favorite hymns, declared their faith and had a “Parents Moment”.  And yes, I did get to preach.  In fact, I delivered a 20 point sermon entitled “What the Bible Says About Children”.  The Bible says, of course, much more.  But I figured a 30 point sermon might put people to sleep.  Here are 20 things that the Bible says about children.  Please take the time to read the Scriptures and contemplate as to how you can be a blessing to the children or this world. 

 1. Children need to be taught - Exodus 18:20; Deuteronomy 4:9

 2. Children need to be directed - Deuteronomy 31:12-13

 3. Children need to be trained - Proverbs 22:6

 4. Children need to be disciplined - Proverbs 22:15

 5. Children should keep the laws and decrees of God - Deuteronomy 4:40; 12:28

 6. Children need to hear our testimony and confession concerning how God has

     and is working in our life.  Deuteronomy 4:9; Psalm 71:17-18

 7. Children need to be protected / helped / and defended - Psalm 72:4

 8. Children are a heritage from the Lord - Psalm 127:3; Proverbs 17:6

 9. Children are watched over / looked upon by God - Psalm 72:4, 146:9; Jeremiah

     49:11

10. God is deeply concerned for the welfare of children - Lamentations 1:16, 2:11,

     3:32-33

11. God will hear the cry of children who are taken advantage of - Exodus 22:22-23

12. We will not lose our reward for helping or caring for children - Matthew 10:42

13. God reveals himself to children - Matthew 11:25-26

14. Angles are watching over children - Matthew 18:10

15. Children are to worship God - Matthew 21:16

16. Rejecting children is to reject God - Mark 9:36-37

17. Children are to obey their parents - Ephesians 6:1; Colossians 3:20

18. Parents should not exasperate their children - Ephesians 6:4

19. Religion that God accepts as pure and faultless includes looking after orphans -

     James 1:27

20. A child is known by his actions - Proverbs 20:11
